Sweet Treats in Grand Forks: Unique to Our Town
Tea & Crepe – Recently relocated to a new space in downtown Grand Forks, Tea & Crepe offers a vibrant mix of colorful bubble teas, made-to-order crepes, and creative desserts. The café is also well known for its Thai Ice Cream Roll, where guests can watch your creation get mixed, frozen, and carefully rolled right in front of you. With a wide variety of flavors from each treat, every visit offers a chance to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Widman’s Candy Shop – A true Grand Forks favorite. A good friend and I recently stopped in since she had never been before. We tried it out and bought some very interesting concoctions! I was very surprised to like the chocolate covered olive and chocolate covered pickle. Of course, no visit is complete without picking up their famous “chippers”! I was smiling ear to ear after this stop, some would say chipper even.

DHI Sweet Street – A fantastic full-service hometown bakery right in your backyard… or close! DHI Sweet Street is associated with Development Homes, Inc., a local nonprofit that supports individuals with disabilities. DHI Sweet Street provides meaningful employment and training opportunities while serving a breakfast spot, coffee, and desserts. From their delicious caramel rolls and muffins to cookies, cupcakes, and specialty donuts, every item is made with care.
Annie’s Chocolate – Located in the Midtown District Mall, Annie’s Chocolates is one of Grand Forks’ newest sweet spots, celebrating the grand opening this last spring. Owner Annie Larson has been crafting chocolates for almost 20 years. She was originally baking near Fisher, MN and is now bringing her expertise to Grand Forks. She specializes in handcrafted small-batch chocolates, truffles, and seasonal treats. And talk about a beautiful store, it looks just like a chocolate factory!
Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea – A new location for the Grand Forks community, attached to the Olive Ann Hotel. I stopped here for the first time and fell in love. Not only did they have yummy drinks, but you called them sweet treats too. I tried out a homemade blueberry muffin which happened to be from Bernie’s right down the road. What a great experience for hotel guests and our community.

Sweet Treats in Grand Forks: The OGs
Cold Stone Creamery – A build your own ice cream paradise. Cold Stone Creamery is known for frozen desserts mixed on a cold granite stone. Instead of scooping pre-mixed flavors, employees blend your ice cream creation right in front of you. They also have signature creations; I especially love their coffee lovers only creation. Also try out their cakes, silk, and sorbet options.
Dairy Queen – A familiar favorite that everyone loves! DQ has four locations in town: 3600 South Columbia Road, 1205 South Washington Street, 1209 North 5th Street, and 1412 Central Ave Northeast, East Grand Forks. Popular for their blizzards and frozen sweet treats. I happen to live too close to a DQ and it gets my wallet in trouble.

Insomnia Cookies – Perfect for your late-night cravings, Insomnia is open until 1:00 am Sunday through Wednesday and 3:00 am Thursday through Saturday. Here you can find your traditional classics like chocolate chip and snickerdoodle. Insomnia is also well known for their late-night delivery. With warm cookies, convenient delivery, and late hours, Insomnia has become a part of our town.
Crumbl Cookie – Heaven in a pink box. Crumbl is known for their fresh, oversized cookies with a menu that changes every week – keeping customers coming back for more. One of the coolest parts is their open-concept kitchen, where you can watch everything being made right in front of you. I brought my parents here a year ago and my dad could not have enough: “Can we grab some more on the way out of town?” – Tianna’s Dad.
Scheels – Ginna’s Café & Coffee | Fuzziwig’s Candy Factory: Ginna’s offers a cozy place to relax, refuel, and enjoy delicious goodies during your shopping experience. One of the standout treats is their homemade fudge. A smooth, creamy texture and packed with flavor, the fudge comes in a wide variety of options. A memorable part of the Scheels experience for me growing up. Another highlight in Scheels is Fuzziwig’s Candy Factory – a kid’s dream come true world! Here you can find bulk candy, hard-to-find candy (not in your typical grocery store), made-in-store treats, and much more. Perfect place to build your own mixed bag of goodies.
