In my opinion the best rainy day mornings start with an incredible breakfast. Just across the downtown bridge leading into East Grand Forks – you will find a beautiful cafe, bakery, and market called Bernie’s. With a variety of pastries to choose from and menu options that cater to vegan, gluten free and traditional diets, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The atmosphere is beautiful and welcoming, making it a super comfortable place to escape the rain. After finishing your breakfast, be sure to browse their retail section near the front entrance to discover something new and unique!

Next on the to-do list: fuel up at the Ember Coffeehouse. Whether you are enjoying your day solo, spending time with a loved one, or bringing your little ones along, they offer an inviting atmosphere for all – if you have young children be sure to check out their dedicated kid’s area located upstairs. One of my go to favorites on their menu is the Cafe Miel. Beyond having great drinks, service, and amazing vibes, The Ember Coffeehouse is also committed to giving back to the community. Through their month giveback program, the Coffeehouse partners with local organizations throughout the year to support meaningful causes. As they put it, “Together we are creating a welcoming place where great coffee fuels meaningful impact.” It is an incredible spot to enjoy a moment of peace while supporting a local business that invests in community!

If you’re in the shopping mood, stop by Flippin’ Happy Home Decor located on South Washington Street. It is a locally owned shop specializing in home decor, upcycled furniture, and plenty of unique goods. I personally enjoy their candle and plant section. What stands out to me the most about Flipping Happy is how big the store actually is. Just when you think you have reached the end, there’s more to explore. It is a surprising space that makes the shopping trip feel like an adventure. As an added bonus you get to support a local business!

To end your rainy-day adventures, head over to River Cinema, located just across the bridge in East Grand Forks. They offer a great selection of movies along with classic theater snacks and drinks to enjoy during your movie! Guests can choose between standard stadium seating or upgrade to luxury seating for a more comfortable viewing experience. With fun films, classic treats, and comfortable seating options. It’s the perfect way to relax and wind down after a day of exploring!
